Is that a ray of sunshine I see?

OK – it’s been a good week for me. I got my first vaccine injection on February 27th and scheduled for the 2nd on March 27th.  Suddenly – things seem brighter and another weight lifted off my shoulders.

But I know that is not the case for everyone…

  • 2/17/21: Texas deep freeze leaves millions without power and 21 dead.
State’s grid operation raised power prices 450-times the usual price
  • 2/8/21: Chamoli glacial outburst in India kills 26, and 200 missing
  • 2/5/21: Flooding and landslides in Paraguay kills 10
  • 1/29/21: Flooding and landslides in Brazil kills 2
  • 1/24/21: Cyclone Eloise kills 12 in Mozambique and Zimbabwe

So, the ray of sunshine is that the vaccines are starting to diminish the brutal pandemic effects.  But as we emerge from isolation our nemesis, global warming, has been waiting in the wings to greet us.

COVID has been devastating, as evidenced by the 2,591,264 global deaths as of this writing. However, it is noteworthy that there are 9 Million deaths each year related to Air Pollution – but apparently there is no vaccine for profiteering off of fossil fuels.

We need to turn our attention back to mitigating the worst effects of Climate Change, and not a moment too soon.  There is already evidence the carbon emissions drop in the depths of the pandemic have all but been erased.

In this issue we feature both positive progress and troubling obstacles – so that we may celebrate the victories and give focus to the areas in need of our attention.

Be sure to review the item from the Climate Reality Project on their next round of virtual Climate Reality Leader training being made available (for free).  To date, they have trained over 27,000 Climate Leaders, in 154 countries, aged 12 to 87.  There is no time like the present to get involved – the planet you save is the only one we got…

As a reminder from past newsletters, IFMA has amassed a collection of COVID-related materials in their Coronavirus Preparedness Resource Center.  The IFMA Foundation released an authoritative Pandemic Manual.  And Lear Corporation produced a Safe Work Playbook: 2nd Edition.  All are freely available for download.

As always, we hope you find the newsletter enlightening…
